Dog of the week number six is the gorgeous Newfoundland dog. What struck me most during my research into this breed is that the breed standard explicitly states that sweet temperament is the "most important single characteristic of the breed." Newfoundlands have captured hearts for centuries, and we explored some of the most famous members of the breed throughout history. But what really brought this week to life was meeting Walter, a Newfoundland working as a therapy dog. Seeing that gentle nature in action reminded me exactly why these dogs rank so highly with dog lovers everywhere.

With a ranking of #46 on the AKC top 200, the Newfoundland continues to win over families and individuals alike. The engagement we saw on TikTok this week proved just how beloved these dogs truly are—and it's easy to understand why when you spend time with one.
